Embroidery

Hello,my friends!

I still can’t believe that I made this last night…

WP_20150730_22_24_03_Pro

A felt heart embellished with embroidery…. Me!!! Embroidery and me!!! How,for God’s sake, did that happen?!

WP_20150730_22_27_48_Pro

WP_20150730_22_30_29_Pro

My first embroidered heart key ring…. I’m still speechless!!

I was able to do that thanks to two tutorials found on You tube….

Do not ask me why because I don’t know…. The only explanation I have is that, unconsciously, I knew that I was able to embroider, I just had to wait for right the time. And the greatest inspiration came from two blogs, Squirrel Picnic and Beastie Blog, run by two great girls!!! Thank you, dear ladies, for sharing your work! You rock!!

Now I can’t wait to embroider more!

Oh,I almost forgot, except the stuffing, my key ring has some dries lavander flowers to give it a unique scent… This is a gift and I do hope that the recipient will love it since it was she and her work who made me wish to try something new….

FO :: My Very First Quilt

Hello,my friends!

What an awful heat we are suffering here in Italy!! Still!!! And it seems that we will have such a dreadful weather during all summer… Can you imagine…?Just to describe a bit better the situation my Big man and me went to buy a portable air-conditioning and they were all gone!!! And here is how I look like almost every day…. Please, forget the red lipstick and the elegant hairstyle seen on Facebook….

WP_20150717_09_06_23_Pro

Sweaty, red in face and very perplexed!!! Please, please, heat give us a break!!!!

I try to craft despite the hot weather even if that’s not always easy… the concentration lost and a lack of creativity are always around the corner… but you know me,I’m stoic! So,inspired by Sheila’s patchwork picnic blanket, I tried to sew one by myself too… I bought the wadding and the plastic tablecloth I needed the day after I sewed together the fabric squares….

WP_20150717_09_06_04_Pro

… and I didn’t have problems with the wadding and the quilting itself….

WP_20150717_18_04_49_Pro

…. but sewing on the plastic tablecloth….THAT WAS A REAL DISASTER!!!!

WP_20150717_15_31_58_Pro

It was hard to make it slide properly, it curved and curled continuously…. a nightmare!!! Now I know that sewing a plastic or a vinyl or a leather fabric is just too ambitious for me. I’m not even sure if I have an appropriate sewing machine foot at mine for this kind of materials. Here they are….

WP_20150717_17_59_10_Pro

Is there anything suitable,in your opinion? On my hand,I decided that I’ll study my sewing machine accessories once the heat will be gone….

Back to my quilt now. πŸ™‚ I didn’t give up from it and decided to change the original project by using some fabric I have at mine for quite a while…

WP_20150721_17_01_41_Pro

Its purpose didn’t change at all, since it is FO I’m using it like a rug in our living/crafting attic and I use the plastic tablecloth to protect the quilt from the dust… See what I mean in the below photo and, by the way, this is how the back side looks like …

WP_20150721_17_06_01_Pro

The borders are not straight like I wanted them to be but all in all I’m satisfied… and here it is the front side…

WP_20150721_13_43_07_Pro

WP_20150721_13_44_28_Pro

WP_20150721_17_09_24_Pro

WP_20150721_17_21_13_Pro

The plastic tablecloth is bearing the scars of the many tries I made to sew it on…

WP_20150721_16_59_28_Pro

… but i decided to leave it so and remind me that I still have a lot to learn about sewing…

And finally, my quilt in use….

WP_20150721_17_15_03_Pro

WP_20150721_17_10_29_Pro

What do you think? Did the quilt turn out ok since it is my first one? I was thinking about sewing blankets for the little ones of my Big man and my family! In your opinion, can I dare to?

Despite the imperfection of my crafts,my aim is to have a cozy home and I see that slowly I’m achieving it. πŸ™‚ This makes me feel good indeed….

The mustard yarn epilogue

Oh,yeah,it is true! I had bought a big amount of the mustard cotton yarn and I tried to make the most of it indeed! First the dress, then the Crescent shawl and, as last, this little goodie… a grocery bag…

WP_20150704_14_21_33_Pro

WP_20150704_14_53_15_Pro

WP_20150704_14_38_14_Pro

…. well,in fact it is too small to carry groceries but it is perfect for books…. LOL The cost of the yarn? 26 € for thirteen balls thanks to my friend Katia. I’m quite satisfied with my maths LOL and even if I had paid it twice as much it still would have been a bargain.

Back to the bag, I had found the pattern online quite a while ago but I don’t remember where. Here’s the photo I saved on my computer and if the author recognizes it as his own pattern I kindly ask to let me know.

Β 10457596_765985030090088_7043991090331198642_n

As you can see, the size can be adjust as you want and it is quite quick to crochet so… Have fun!!

I can easily suppose that you could be slightly sick of seeing all that mustard at mine…. πŸ˜›

WP_20150704_14_33_10_Pro

…. but,oh,there’s a ball left!!!!! Can you spot it?

Seriously now, I think that I’ll take a break of that mustard but in a few days even this last ball will be happily used for a very good purpose so I hope that you’ll forgive me its longlasting presence at mine… Do you remember the Charity Yarn Bombing promoted by The Grange Range last year?? This event will occure again in August this year so I will use it to crochet flowers! And if you are interested to, just have a look at The Grange Range blog for more informations:

Have a great weekend, kind and lovely people out there!!

Let’s talk about…

Hello,my friends!

Oh,yeah, let’s talk about, but with a smile as always πŸ™‚ because after annoying things there the good ones happen, as it should be. This morning I got out for a ride with my bike and I lost one of the pedals :/ :/ :/ for my sake it happened quite close to my Big man’s workplace but neither he nor me were able to fix the damage… The nice owner ot the bookshop/coffee bar I used to spend my time the first days we were in Peschiera gave me the directions for ‘bike doctors’ who solved the problem in half an hour. Oh,lucky me πŸ™‚ because now I know where I have to go in case of troubles πŸ™‚ Well,my plan wasn’t exactly that but at least I got out,had a ride, had a walk and sweated like a donkey!! πŸ˜› Oh,and enjoyed the view…

WP_20150624_10_34_18_Pro

Unfortunately there’s never an end to annoying troubles…. I pulled a thread out of my mustard dress… 😦

WP_20150622_10_46_34_Pro

….grrrrr…. why does not that happen to garments you do not care about at all!!! Fortunately the thread wasn’t broken and I fixed that easily. I washed the dress and now you can notice anything but I must be much more careful with my knitted goodies from now on… well, that happened on Sunday when we got home from my in Laws …. that to tell you that I was proudly showing my new garment all around and will continue to do that despite the awareness of the pulled thread in the inside…. πŸ˜›

There’s was a street market in Berceto on Sunday… I realized that I don’t talk much about my Big man’s home town and that’s not nice from me.I often refer to as ‘my in Laws’ but I don’t do justice to this nice burg on the Apennines. Maybe I still don’t feel at home there but that does not mean that I have to not talk about at all. Berceto deserves a better ambassador for sure! So from now on I’ll try to do better and I’ll start by telling that during all Summer there are a lot of small nice happenings and village fΓͺtes in Berceto and its surroundings. As I said there was a nice market with a lot of interesting stalls, mostly by handmade items. But one of them had used books and I’ve found this on it…

WP_20150622_12_26_14_Pro

Artistically speaking, the ‘Art Nouveau’ period is my favourite… It is so easy to feel both the desperation and the visceral need for beauty in the work of the very beginning of the 20th century artists. My mind stops to think as I see this…

WP_20150622_12_27_50_Pro

…. and this….

WP_20150622_12_28_49_Pro

…. and not to talk about Gustav Klimt paintings, absolutely my favourites!! I tried to use his colours in my craft but have to admit that it is not easy at all. Maybe my mustard dress and Jennifer’s origami necklace could slightly recall his style but slightly indeed… A friend of mine told me that my granny square blanket reminds her on Klimt’s work and I have to admit that her words made me feel so good… I’ll try to use more yellow, white, black and gold in my work from now on.

My friends, do you remember that Sheila from Sewchet had a giveaway for her Bloggiversary a while ago….? and I was the lucky winner!!! Well, some days ago her parcel arrived at mine!! I was just writing this post when the postman rang the bell…Β What an excitement!! Now I’m more calm and more aware of the beauty I’m surrounded with. Hers like all the others gifts I have received up till now talk about the skill and passion and time and fondness put in crafting them. This makes me move to tears!

Enjoy Sheila’s lovely goodies!

Jennifer’s gift

Hello,my friends!

It was about time to write about a nice large package sent to me by Jennifer, the nice and sweet lady who stays behind the Squirrel Picnic blog…. Today I had finally my home clean and tidy (if you ignore all the boxes around….) and I took the chance to take some shots of its content…. so here we are…. enjoy πŸ™‚

I’m so sorry to being so tired and have little energy to write about these gorgeous goodies arrived from Colorado because Jennifer is such a perfect (NO KIDDING) crafter and deserves a much better post than this one. The only thing I can do to thank her properly for her generosity, and which goes far beyond than I deserve, is to invite you to stop by her blog and enjoy the beauty you’ll find there.

Enjoy!

Thanks,Jennifer, I’m still thrilled by the beauty I saw as I opened your box

FO :: Elisabeth Lovick’s Crescent Shawl and a really magnificent gift

Hello, my dear friends!

These last two weeks were quite busy and intensely lived, in particular in its affective and emotional aspect. My Big man is working an awfully lot and the days he was at home I was focused on him and our life together and didn’t have the right concentration to blog. Well, to be honest, we are facing some issues that require a lot of energy and self confidence so I prefered being present in the real life rather than in the virual one. On the other hand, I didn’t stop to craft mostly because this is the best way to muse about everyday life and its problems as well as because my hands were itching to craft something from Elisabeth Lovick’s book.

But before writing about my last FO I’d like to show you what bmaryglaser sent me from the States…

The American Cook Book…

AMAZING!!!!

I have secretly desired it for ages…. and it is exactly as I imagined it….

…..just woooooooooooooooooooooow…..

WP_20150313_17_53_46_Pro

WP_20150313_17_53_21_Pro

That kind lady called Brittany Mary put in the parcel another amazing item…..

WP_20150313_17_56_24_Pro

WP_20150313_17_57_51_Pro

….which, as I saw it, made me recall Janis Joplin’s song Me and Bobby McGee….

Bmary glued all the pieces of this beautiful car all by herself…. how, for God’s sake, can’t I be moved to tears… ?

And last but not least, she crocheted a beautiful headband and wrote me a gorgeous card…

WP_20150313_18_01_46_Pro

Bmary, I forgot to tell you that I’m on my way to make my hair grow under my Big man’s strict demand…. I think that this summer I will be the coolest girl in town…. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

What can I say…. when I saw the contents of the parcel I was astonished!!! It is far beyond my expectations and I really don’t know how to thank you properly, Bmary!!! I enjoy every single goodie you sent me. Thank you ❀ ❀ ❀

Now, the Crescent shawl…. the photos just do not do it justice. I’ll try to make a better photo session of the shawl next week (I’m traveling to Croatia on Thursday) but up till then….

WP_20150317_16_17_06_Pro

WP_20150317_16_14_03_Pro

WP_20150317_16_14_17_Pro

WP_20150317_16_15_09_Pro

I have finished off the shawl an hour ago and have blocked it on the bed. I do not usually soak my knitted projects monstly because I do not have an appropriate surface to put them to dry …. I usually wet them with an odor eliminator, block them and make dry on the bed. Well, it works almost as well as soaking…. πŸ™‚

I’m in love with Shetland lace…. I was so affrait not to be able to knit the shawl but it had turned out better that I could have eventually expected…. It was such a pleasure knitting this goodie as well as seeing it shaping while blocking…. and the colour…. it is not an usual red… oh no.. it is a nice cherry red that I love really much….

WP_20150317_18_18_48_Pro

Dear Jennifer, your first goodie is ready πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I’ll focus on a second one now… πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚
